Recently, there has been an intensive campaign to attract more female students into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. Unfortunately, only 34% of STEM degrees are awarded to women.
Fortunately, there are numerous scholarships available for women in STEM. These awards strive to give female high school and college-bound students an opportunity to pursue a STEM career.
1. The Newsette Daily Newspaper
The Newsette Daily Newspaper is an invaluable resource for women interested in STEM fields, especially if you want to get ahead of your education. They offer various scholarships, including one specifically tailored towards women in STEM.
This scholarship program was created as a fun and educational way to inspire young women to pursue careers in STEM fields. Each year, up to $500 in tuition reimbursement will be offered along with other exciting prizes and perks for participants.
To be eligible for this award, applicants must be high school seniors or graduates enrolled in an undergraduate program at a college or university. Furthermore, they must demonstrate their enthusiasm for a future in STEM by demonstrating an enthusiasm for the topic and having an impressive work ethic.
In addition to the scholarship itself, a portion of the funds will go towards supporting scholarships for women in STEM fields. These awards will be given to female students who are either currently pursuing or have been accepted into degree programs related to these fields.
What is the best way to apply for these scholarships? Many require an application and essay. Others may ask you to submit a video or photo as evidence of why you deserve the award.

2. The Heinlein Society
Are you a science fiction fan and interested in studying math, engineering, biology or physical sciences? The Heinlein Society can assist with your ambitions. They offer two scholarships – one specifically tailored for women in stem fields – as financial assistance.
The Heinlein Society is a nonprofit, non-political science fiction society that celebrates Robert Heinlein’s legacy by awarding scholarships and promoting Heinlein literature. Additionally, it distributes Heinlein books to military personnel, veterans’ families, as well as stimulating scholarly research on Heinlein.
Since 2013, The Heinlein Prize Trust and Baltimore Science Fiction Society (BSFS) have collaborated to administer the Robert A. Heinlein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Space Exploration, presented annually by both organizations.
This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of free spacefaring civilizations. These contributions may take any form–scientific, technical, engineering, theoretical, written (fiction or nonfiction), political, philosophical visionary public relations mass media economic or business operations–with special recognition given those whose actions involved personal social or financial risk.
Each award winner receives a sterling silver medallion and certificate plaque, as well as an invitation to attend a ceremony at Balticon, an annual science fiction convention held in Seattle.
Candidates are asked to write an essay of 500-1,000 words about Heinlein, his writings, and/or their own career choice. Additionally, they must discuss how Heinlein’s works have inspired them in the science field.
Scholarships are available to students of underrepresented minorities. These scholarships aim to aid minority students in their college endeavors by covering tuition and other costs. These can be utilized at either four-year institutions or in-state community colleges.
In addition to these scholarships, the Heinlein Society also sponsors Heinlein Blood Drives and provides Heinlein literature to U.S. military and veterans’ hospitals.
The Heinlein Society also promotes the Heinlein Book Club program, which offers resources for local book clubs and groups. This includes educational lesson plans, discussion questions, and access to multimedia files from the Heinlein Archives at UC Santa Cruz.
The Heinlein Society is dedicated to upholding the Heinlein legacy by supporting the Heinlein Prize Trust and encouraging commercial space activities. The Trust holds a significant portion of Heinlein’s estate and literary legacy, including most of their book rights. Over time, they plan on prudently developing their assets.
3. The Society of Physics Students
The Society of Physics Students, a nonprofit organization that strives to promote women in STEM fields, offers a scholarship program for female college students. This merit-based award is open to U.S. citizens who are members of the Society’s national organization and in their sophomore or junior year of college.
The scholarship will pay $6,000 toward a woman’s education at either two- or four-year institution and can be put towards tuition, books, textbooks or any other related expenses. To qualify, the applicant must have at least a 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need.
For women in STEM fields, the Society of Physics Students offer the Albert Oswald Undergraduate Research Scholarship, which pays up to $45,000 over one year to support undergraduate research at an accredited four-year institution in a STEM subject. To qualify, students must be majoring in one of these fields and have a faculty mentor during their research project.
This scholarship program is unique in that it requires students to conduct their own research, rather than being funded for lab assistant or volunteer work. Furthermore, the University of North Dakota awards the Pearl Young Scholarship to women and gender nonconforming students majoring in STEM fields.
There are many scholarships available for women in STEM, such as the BHW Scholarship which offers US$3,000 to study a STEM subject. Applications open each January and close in April annually.
Finally, the Cards Against Humanity Science Ambassador Scholarship offers full tuition to women in STEM who pursue a course in the United States. To apply, students must create a three-minute educational video about a STEM topic and post it on YouTube.
There are plenty of scholarships for women in STEM, but the key is finding one that suits your uniqueness and personality. For instance, if you’re an outgoing woman who enjoys writing, scholarships from organizations like Sunshine Lady Foundation or American Association of University Women Fellowship and Grant Program may be suitable. Likewise, women who have had their education interrupted due to personal crises such as domestic abuse or divorce can take advantage of loans offered by organizations offering loans as a way to finance their STEM studies.
4. The BHW Scholarship
The BHW Scholarship is one of the most sought-after STEM scholarships for women, typically awarding around $3,000. This program is administered by BHW Group, an Austin, Texas-based software company that specializes in custom web and mobile app development.
The program aims to motivate women to pursue careers in STEM fields and provides financial aid for female students. Not only will recipients receive money, but they’ll also receive mentorship that can assist them with navigating the world of STEM and making it easier for them to be successful during their professional lives.
This program is open to high school seniors and college freshmen/juniors. It is a merit-based scholarship, with recipients selected based on academic performance, leadership skills, and personal qualities. Additionally, international students who attend colleges in the United States or Canada may apply.
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be female. Furthermore, you must plan to study a STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) subject at an accredited university.
To apply, you must submit a completed application, letter of recommendation and 500-word essay outlining your academic interests and why STEM fields appeal to you. The BHW Group will review each submission and select one winner.
